WebIn the present study, we investigated how 64 chemistry students interacted with an adaptive scaffold that offered different ways of support based on students’ strengths and limitations with structural and conceptual aspects that are needed to build a scientific argument in organic chemistry. WebTo fill this gap, we developed a scaffold based on findings in philosophy of organic chemistry and tested it in a qualitative interview setting. The scaffold provides a stepwise reasoning structure to compare the activation energy required for two different molecules to undergo the same type of mechanistic step.
